Here’s what I said.

I’ve seen this video going around after the A&F CEO showed the world he was tactless. While I personally don’t like A&F (especially now), I don’t see how this is much better than his comments. Not only is the video exploiting the homeless, it’s bullying in its own way. Name calling the CEO and deciding that he is unattractive, implying that A&F customers are date rapists and “douchebags”, and other broad brush paintings are equally wrong. Yeah, I get the sarcasm. I get the cynicism. I also know that his narration implies that some of my own family members are date rapists and “douchebags” because they bought the things that were marketed to them…I assure you, they are not.

Want to hurt the A&F brand? Don’t shop there. Educate others about the company’s brand philosophy. Protest. Be fair. There’s no need to exploit people and name call to make your point. Unless of course you like the company of the people you lampoon.

Feel free to give your A&F stuff to people in need, but there’s no need to make a show of it. Why not just help them. Help. Them. Without using them as the counter weight to lift up your point.

This post comes with the announcement of my 2013 Prom Editorial Sessions! Woo!

I decided to offer something different than the normal prom “mini session” and focus a little more on the excitement and fun of today’s prom fashions, while creating a pretty sweet keepsake for looking back on the good old days years from now.

I remembered how good great Cheyenne’s Sweet 16 Photobooth pictures looked and gave her mom a call to see if they were interested in helping me create some sample photos for this special offer. While they excitedly agreed to help, Cheyenne’s first words when they got to the studio were “I’m not a model”. My reply? “Everyone’s a model”. You just have to loosen up a little, and know that my job is to make you look good. I’m not going to publish something that doesn’t.

We had a blast making these photos, and I really hope I get to shoot her Senior portraits next year. She has such a fun personality, and I really can’t thank her enough for sharing a glimpse of that in these photos.

As a fruitcake!

Often, people make assumptions and judgements about depressed people. Sometimes they’re right. Other times they’re so soul-crushingly, fire-gut-bombing incorrect, it only fuels the seemingly never-ending torment.

Some of us hear that we don’t have enough appreciation for the life that was given to us. The truth is this. My love lust love for life is so great such an intense high that the only thing wrong with it is the white-hot devastation in the lump in my throat that I can never live it as fully as I want. Or more importantly – the way God intended.

The depressing part, is that it’s usually my fault. The anxiety is the dividing line between what’s expected and what is right/good and the fact that when I’m honest with myself, I want both.

Last November after having one of my Strafe Zombie Run photobooth photos published in Endurance Magazine, I was contacted by the editor and asked to photograph one of North Carolina’s great athletes, Bobby Mack. I’m no athlete these days, and wasn’t much of one when I was supposed to be. I do know a thing or two about photographing people and I was very happy to be able to shoot the cover and some accompanying photos for the magazine. I hate that it has taken me so long to share, but the photobooth has been getting most of my attention lately.

This family of 15 was an absolute pleasure to photograph. We headed out to Harris Lake in Holly Springs, NC the day after Thanksgiving to make some family photos. I’ll be the first to admit that in the past, the thought of photographing big groups was one that had me a little on the sweaty palms side. Especially when the group consists of mainly children. After gaining experience with other photographers, studying the craft, and most importantly planning the shot; I’ve come to enjoy the challenge. Yes, I still really love working one on one with people. I think that’s why I like to photograph children and high school seniors so much, but I have to say, I really love – really love – the big group shot of this beautifully happy family. It makes me want a photo like this of my own.

Side note: The folks are actual Tudors. Like The Tudors.
